Abdulrasheed Bawa, Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has been found guilty of disregard of court by the Abuja High Court, which is located in Maitama.

Regarding the anti-graft agency’s disregard for a prior court ruling, the EFCC chairman was found guilty on Tuesday.

The Nigerian Air Force (NAFformer)’s Director of Operations, Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Rufus Adeniyi Ojuawo, was a defendant who had been ordered by the court to hand over his Range Rover, N40 million, and his Range Rover to him.

In 2016, Justice Muawiyah Baba Idris of the High Court of the FCT in Nyanya heard the EFCC’s two-count complaint against Ojuawo.

A Supercharged Range Rover Sport and N40 million were allegedly given to him by Hima Aboubakar of Societe D’Equipment Internationalnaux Nigeria Limited.

In a lawsuit brought by Ojuawo’s attorney, R.N. Ojabo, the defendant claimed that the EFCC had disregarded the court’s November 21, 2018, rendered judgement ordering the release of Ojuawo’s confiscated property.

But in a decision issued on Tuesday, Justice Chizoba Orji, the presiding judge, declared that “the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission is in contempt of the orders of this honourable court made on November 21st, 2018 directing the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Abuja, to return to the applicant his Range Rover (Supercharge) and the sum of N40, 000,000.00 (forty million naira)”

He should be sent to the Kuje Detention Centre for his willful disregard of the court’s order from November 21st, 2018, and ongoing disobedience until he absolves himself of the contempt.

According to Justice Orji, “The Inspector General of Police should guarantee that the order of this honourable court be enforced without delay.”
